Bayliss "Imola - Paul Smart" replica

This bike was ridden by Troy Bayliss in the final round of the 2001 World Superbike Championship at Imola in Italy.

It varied from the red bike for a number of important reasons.

Troy had clinched the World Championship at the previous round, so the bike was a celebration of that fact.

The bike was painted to replicate the colour scheme used by Paul Smart on his bikes.

But most importantly, there are some subtle changes that only came to light after researching this set. All the Infostrada decals are shrouded in black, and there is an American flag on the front fairing, when Troy is obviously Australian. Troy also rode in black leathers. This race was the first held after the 9/11 attacks in America and Ducati (an American controlled company) was showing support for the victims and the American public through the new World Champion.
